WHEW!
First day in Scotland was a success. Went to sleep last night at 8pm, slept like a rock until 8am when I had to get up for orientation. The walk to the university is a lovely one. The path winds right by a river and a little park.
This is the university! It looks like something out of Harry Potter. Even more amazing when close!
Some cute street signs.
The little park down the road. It's basically a playground, a skate park and a castle in the back. Oh Scotland.
The river Kelvin that goes right behind the art gallery (that's the gorgeous building in the background).
Look! SUN! It was actually a completely lovely day. No clouds, no rain, lots of sun and very pleasant! Still a little windy, but much better than Minnesota this time of year, I can guarantee that. See, I even cracked a smile.
All in all, a very good day. Orientation was very informative, and made me feel a lot better about everything. I still have yet to enroll, but it's not actually due until the 23rd! I'll try to finish it up tonight and tomorrow, though. I feel pretty much adjusted to the time already. I think staying up last night was the trick, even though it was complete torture. I'll be right as rain tomorrow. Hopefully. Anyways! Orientation was also great because I met a bunch of other international students! Lots and lots of Americans (of course), but frankly, I tried to avoid them. If I wanted lots of American friends, I would have stayed home. But there are also lots of Australians, Canadians, Germans, Austrians, Italians and a few people from the Netherlands and France. Of course, there are others, but those were the main ones. My head was spinning by the end because of all the accents. I'll be a damn good impersonator by the time I get back! After orientation (which was most of the day) we had a social mixer put on by the school. They have use some finger food and drinks and let us chat for a while. It was really great. I also finally picked up a phone today, which was bittersweet. It was actually kind of nice to be disconnected for a while. But yes, I am no longer in the stone age, if some sort of crazy ostrich invasion happens and I must be made aware of the situation. It's almost bed time here, so I'll be finishing up some registration things and heading off to bed!
